Connect Story

Philipp Martin

Senior Manager, Projects Footwear Sourcing
adidas Group (Hong Kong)
(Full-time, Class of 2013)

I was quite sure I would be pursuing an MBA as early as when I started my undergraduate studies. The only question was where I should go. Since my mother is from Taiwan, I was looking for an opportunity to link my studies with China. I speak Mandarin and have lots of relatives in this part of the world. I wanted to get to know the culture better and improve my language ability. The business is very dynamic and so much is going on in Asia, it is a good place to be at the moment. Hong Kong was a really good fit for me. CUHK has an international body of students, a great MBA program and provides exposure to China.

New Student Orientation

Our New Student Orientation took place on Aug 4-5, 2016. We were excited to introduce our brand new Staff Buddy Scheme this year. We hope that through the close interactions between classmates and MBA Office staff, students will adapt to the new living and study environment well.

Thanks for the tremendous support of Yannick Asselin and Terry Wang, current students from Class of 2017. They guided the campus tour and shared their experiences of course registration, Outward Bound and the career development support from Career Management Center.
Student activities are an important part of beyond-class learning. We therefore invited some current students to introduce a series of student-led organizations, clubs, competitions and networking events at the Orientation Night on Aug 5. Active participation in these events would definitely facilitate students to explore their talent in their social and non-academic life. Experiential Learning Trips to Seoul and Tokyo will be held to enrich our students international exposure as well.

Class of 2018 began their career development journey with CMC

The journey with the Class of 2018 began post-typhoon in early August 2016. It was clearly an exhilarating moment for the new cohort to meet their fellow MBAs and chart the course together for the program-year ahead. CMC provided an Overview session during the orientation first week and introduced our career development program and our supporting role to these MBA future leaders. We chartered the “Roadmap : Raising The Bar” course for the students and shared the concept of individual paradigm shifts and personal branding as ultimate goals. In the following CMC sessions, students attended the Image Consulting workshop delivered by a professional Image Consultant who provided both invaluable advice and critique on professional styles and grooming. A tailor was even at hand to offer bespoke personal tailoring service.

As part of the Core CMC program students attended the MBTI workshop to understand themselves and others’ personality preferences. They were also introduced to Talent.Realize – CMC’s newly launched CRM portal and given the opportunity to upload their professional CV to Talent.Realize after the CV Writing Workshop. In the weeks to come more exciting sessions and moments await.
