Legal Knowledge with Business Sophistication
The JD/MBA Programme is an integrated postgraduate double-degree that is jointly hosted by the CUHK Faculty of Law and Business School. It is designed to nurture a new generation of business professionals who also understand the constraints and opportunities of business law, an increasingly coveted trait across a wide range of leadership roles in Asia.
Graduates of the JD/MBA Programme earn both a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, in a period shorter than the customary time needed to complete the two degrees consecutively.
Duration
Part-time: 60 months
Part-time Tuition Fees*:
MBA Component: HK$359,334
JD component: HK$6,880 per unit for a total of 60 units within normative study period

Programme Structure
Students can typically complete the programme in 60 months. A total of 93 units of coursework is required.
* Up to 12 units of MBA coursework are recognised toward fulfillment of JD requirements. Similarly, up to 12 units of JD coursework are recognised toward fulfillment of the MBA requirements.

Admission Requirements
- Academic
- Must have graduated from a recognised university and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in a non-law subject or a law degree from a non-common law jurisdiction, normally with honours no lower than Second Class; or
- Must have graduated from an Honours programme of a recognised university with a Bachelor’s degree in a non-law subject or a law degree from a non-common law jurisdiction, achieving an average grade of no lower than “B” in undergraduate courses; or
- Must have completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree.
- GMAT/GRE Scores
GMAT/ GRE score is not mandatory, but a good score would strengthen application.

- English Language Proficiency Requirement
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree obtained by completing a programme of study in Hong Kong or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or
- Achieve a result of Band 7.5 or better in IELTS, which result was obtained no more than two years before the date of applying to the JD/MBA Programme; or
- Achieve a result of 600 (Paper Based Test) or 100 (Internet Based Test) or better in TOEFL, which result as obtained no more than two years before the date of applying to the JD/MBA Programme; or
- Provide alternative evidence of English proficiency equivalent to one of the preceding measures.
- Work Experience
At least 2 years of full-time post-qualifications work experience or recognised professional qualifications.

- When applying for the JD-MBA Programme do I need to submit a personal statement as part of my application?
No. You are not required to submit a personal statement when applying for the JD-MBA Programme but you may do so if you wish. A personal statements should not exceed 500 words and address your reasons for joining the Programme. You are also welcome to supply any additional documentation that you believe will strengthen your application.
- Do I need to submit my GMAT score when applying for the JD-MBA Programme?
Yes. Your GMAT score is one of the admission requirements for this Programme. You are required to provide an original or a certified copy of your GMAT score as part of your application.
- If I apply for the JD-MBA Progamme, do I have to submit two separate applications, one for JD programme and one for MBA programme?
No. The JD-MBA Programme is an integrated double degree and you only need to submit one application for the programme.
- When do applications open for the JD-MBA Programme?
On-line applications for this programme will normally be invited in early September each year, subject to annual review. Please visit the website of the University’s Graduate School for further information.
- I do not have any work experience. Will the Faculty consider my application for admission to the JD-MBA Programme?
Work experience is one of the admission requirements of the Faculty of Business Administration. Applicants should possess 3 years of post qualification full-time work experience or a recognized professional qualification.
- After I have completed the JD-MBA Programme am I eligible to apply for PCLL Programme?
JD-MBA students who wish to enter the PCLL Programme must first complete all the elective courses required for admission to the PCLL Programme during their studies. Admission to the PCLL Programme is highly competitive.
