CUHK MBA student Desmond Tse recevies The Hong Kong Youth Service Award
Congratulations to Desmond TSE, our JD/MBA student, on receiving The Hong Kong Youth Service Award! We are happy that Desmond receives this award which recognises his commitment and dedication in serving others, brushes colour in Hong Kong’s future.
As a Correctional Services Officer, Desmond TSE Sheung-wai, sees his job as more than imprisoning criminals. He sees it as an opportunity to educate the next generation.
According to Desmond, there is greater value in enabling and instructing those young people who are on the fringes of the law than helping those who are better behaved, which is why he focuses on young criminal offenders. This requires patience so that young delinquents can find the positive in themselves.
Not just content in his rehabilitation and reforming work, Desmond also helps other young people to discover their own potential. In 2011 he applied for a six-month sabbatical from the Correctional Services Department and joined the Service Corps to lead a group of young people to the northern region of Guangdong to carry out voluntary education to people less fortunate than themselves. Last year (2013), he established the “Hong Kong Young Historian Leadership Development Institute” that looks at historical themes to train students to be leaders by applying what they learn from others.
Desmond TSE blends history and education to empower young people, whether incarcerated or otherwise, always having faith in their potential that they too can give back in service.
