Adviser’s Leadership Talk by Mr Antony Hung

“Success is not about waiting for the perfect conditions but about navigating the imperfect world with resilience, optimism, and adaptability.
Mr Antony Hung (BBA 1982, MBA 1984), Executive Vice President and Regional Head of Asia at Grupo Santander, shared his journey from a young professional to a banking leader. Anthony, one of our Advisory Board members, emphasised that in a difficult economy, one will wonder how to carve out a career that stands the test of time. He hinged on the belief that if there is one opportunity available, you are capable of securing it; and mentioned that a pessimistic mindset is a self-imposed defeat before the challenge even begins.
Key insights from his leadership playbook:
🔹 Everything is a reference point – The world feels imperfect only when you compare yourself to someone with more privilege.
🔹 Optimism is a game-changer – The moment you give up, you eliminate yourself from the competition.
🔹 Failure fuels success – Be the last one standing; adversity builds careers.
🔹 Know your strengths – Leverage what makes you unique instead of chasing someone else’s path.
🔹 Break through self-imposed limits – You won’t reach higher if you put a ceiling on yourself.
🔹 Be a problem-solver – Let challenges motivate you, not discourage you.
🔹 Authenticity creates opportunities – Being yourself doesn’t diminish options—it unlocks them.
🔹 Stay agile – Overconfidence breeds stagnation; adaptability keeps you relevant.
