MBA Orientation Program Kicks Off the MBA Student Journey

MBA Orientation Program Kicks Off the MBA Student Journey - 1

In August and September 2015, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School welcomed the new batch of Full Time (FT) and Part Time (PT) MBA students with a series of orientation activities. These included networking events, experiential learning workshops and a speaker series. The orientation program offers a valuable opportunity for students to get acquainted and excited, leading into the formal MBA classes. Some of the orientation activities included:

A visit to companies in Shenzhen was arranged to help students develop a deeper knowledge of China business. The new CUHK MBA students visited ZTE Corporation, a globally-leading provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions and Yantian International Container Terminals, one of the largest and most advanced container terminals in the world. The group also spent valuable time with Mr. Massaki Ogino, founder of City Super and chairman of Fenix Group Holdings Ltd.

The full-time Class participated in a signature event called Opportunity, Matching, Getting Prepared (O.M.G.). O.M.G. is a three-day career development boot camp. This year the workshops covered topics such as leadership, storytelling and innovation and more generic skills including case interviews and networking. Second-year MBA students and recent alumni also shared their personal experiences and advice with the new students.

The CUHK MBA Career Management Center (CMC) also started its one-to-one consulting sessions with students. Students will meet with career advisors from CMC throughout September. These meetings provide a valuable platform allowing CMC staff to better understand the unique professional backgrounds and experience of the class, and for students to become more familiar with CMC and its services. A better understanding of the needs and background of the students also helps CMC to develop tailored trainings and workshops in the up-coming months for the class.
