The Negotiation Challenge 2014

“……we were able to gain negotiation experiences, get connected to international students and discover an amazing country. So for us, our main objectives were fully accomplished!”

A team of our three full-time Year 1 students flied to Iceland to join The Negotiation Challenge 2014 in April.

Little less than 60 teams from Universities from all over the world applied for participation in The Negotiation Challenge (TNC) 2014. CUHK MBA team is one of the 18 teams being invited to travel to Reykjavik to compete! TNC is about testing communication and mental acuity skills. It allows students from leading universities from all over the world to come together and compete against each other in realistic team negotiation situations.

Hear what the team say…

Iceland, the country of Fire & Ice: what a perfect place for a Negotiation Challenge! And with 18 teams coming from all over the world, from USA to Kenya through Poland, this year edition promised to be a great experience!

The University of Reykjavik did an amazing job for organizing the competition! The four rounds were held in various outstanding locations such as the Viking Village, the famous Blue Lagoon or even Harpa, Reykjavik’s opera house!

The Negotiation cases were challenging and diversified. Our team was separated for the first round for individual negotiations whereas the next three rounds were Team negotiations. Each negotiation topic was linked to the round location which even made all rounds very original.

Competition was tough as we faced all different kinds of negotiation techniques and styles. Every team fought fiercely and at the end the University of Warsaw from Polan won the competition.

As for us, we felt we did a good job along the rounds as we every time get some very satisfying deals. Our final ranking, 8 out of 18, was then a bit disappointing but we did not care that much as we were able to gain negotiation experiences, get connected to international students and discover an amazing country. So for us, our main objectives were fully accomplished!
