CSR Club Speaker Series – Changing Mindset

CSR Club Speaker Series – Changing Mindset

CUHK MBA has been known for its annual CSR & Sustainability Conference, Asia’s largest student-led conference. This grand event first started in 2007 and is now in its 13th year. 2020 has been an exceptional year to the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has brought unprecedented challenges to many businesses around the world. In view of this situation, the CUHK MBA’s CSR & Sustainability Club decided to organise a series of student-led virtual speaker sessions centered around the theme “Changing Mindset”.

“At its core, the theme is aimed at encouraging the audience to change the way they operate both in their business decisions as well as personal lives. The pandemic has shown that a profitability mindset is not a guaranteed success path, and a sustainable business can lead to a brighter and better future.

The theme also allowed us in getting esteemed speakers from different facets of business across investment, corporate, energy, social work and consulting to ensure a holistic showcase of how sustainability is a core business value, not a support function. Moreover, the diversity of the sessions also helped our amazing cohort in understanding how they could see professional success within the field.”

Prateek Pant (Vice President of CSR & Sustainability Club)

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 posed to the event, it has been a very successful one. This year, the conference had to go entirely online, but it allowed people from different parts of the world to participate. Virtual meeting may become the new normal due to the pandemic. The interaction between the participants and the speakers was substantial as people are more conscious about sustainable development under current pandemic situations.

“The biggest concern going into the series was whether people would even show up in attendance for a virtual session. The year has been increasingly difficult, with differing circumstances and furthermore, volatile emotions and challenges for everyone so it wasn’t a guarantee that people would be interested in learning about sustainability. To our pleasant surprise, we had an overwhelming response from the students. I want to thank everyone who attended for taking the time out to be a part of this conversation.

A special gratitude goes to the speakers as well. They took time out from their busy schedule regardless of the differences in time zones just to help out students. It was heart warming.”

The speaker series covered various hot topics from Social Innovation to Metrics Driven Strategy on Sustainability Development. The speakers shared the insights on the sustainable business trends as well as how they marry their profession with passion for sustainable change.

A big thank you to our speakers for their inspiring presentations, highlighting the importance of innovation and social consciousness in the new normal where sustainability has become the new business imperative.
