MBA Blog: Holiday Cheer
Current MBA student Monica Dee says in her latest blog published in Financial Times that she concluded 2014 with valuable learning experience through taking part in an MBA charity competition.
For about four months, starting from September 2014 until early January 2015, Dee worked closely with five other MBA classmates on the Operation Santa Claus MBA Charity Challenge. This is an annual competition among students in different business schools in Hong Kong. They were challenged to demonstrate their innovative flair through creating a business plan and using the proceeds from the sale of Santa hats to raise money for charity.
Dee formed a team with her classmates in early September 2014. As they started implementing their strategies, they found out that some of them were not feasible given the available resources. Despite the fact that the members came from various backgrounds, teamwork was exhibited among them, with each leveraging his or her strengths to compensate for the weaknesses and shortcomings of another. Eventually, they were able to accomplish what they had set out to achieve.
Dee and her teammates were able to establish a great working relationship and produce a business plan and a promotional video –both of which received high praise from the judging committee. She admits that her team may not have raised the top amount of funds out of all the participating teams, but they have gained valuable learning experiences…
